The city has a medieval quarter that has a totally different feel from the rest of the city, but other than that, the place is pretty uniformly grand buildings with baroque flourishes, such as these. We didn't take many photos of Vienna, maybe because all the elegance becomes a bit boring, or maybe because it can be a depressing city. The city is famous for being downbeat, probably due to their most famous resident, Sigmund Freud. And it gets dark awfully early in winter, and the weather was grey and cloudy as well. Of course if we stayed at one of Vienna's grand hotels, like the Sacher, Bristol or Imperial, where I stayed before, it could have cheered us up. But the Hilton made us almost suicidal. It's a '60's cement monstrosity, with thousands of rooms and most people wearing nametags or identical hats to identify which tour group they belong to. Standard Hilton drabness, definitely not what was needed to keep the spirits high.
