Wednesday was a big driving day so we got an early start. After a series of long goodyes with the Paratiho family, we drove around the north shore of the island, from Nelson to Picton, with beautiful views of bays and coves to the left and mountains to the right. Marlborough Sound, the body of water cutting the country in half, has lots of nooks and crannies that make it very photogenic. The ferry leaves from Picton, the town in the pictures, to Wellington on the North Island. We then headed south in our continued circumnavigation of the island (there's really only one main road that makes a complete circle of the island). We were going to stop in Blenheim, the capital of New Zealand's wine country, but it was pretty ugly, mostly strip malls so we kept going.
