Tuscany, Oct '01

We flew from Bangkok to Florence for the wedding of our friends Asif and Jill. It was a bit eerie since the trip took place just a few weeks after the World Trade Center attack. The flights were near empty and the army was all over the airports. Not a great way to start a trip, and an added complication was that the US had just invaded Afghanistan. So our flight had to be rerouted around Afghanistan, which made us late for our connection in Frankfurt. I realize my ten hours at the Frankfurt airport are pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things, but since this is my blog, I think it's fair to focus on the war's impact on me! Anyway, enough of geopolitics, finally arrived in Florence for the start of a great Tuscan holiday.
