My birthday, October 16, came and went without fanfare. Somchai has a long history of forgetting my birthday so I wasn't surprised. However, I was worried this year that the birthday cake from Reza and Marion the night before, plus a bottle of birthday champagne from Asif today, might have tipped him off. Needless worrying. We spent the morning in a particularly stupid fashion. We had decided to extend our holiday a couple of days, but unfortunately the Italian visa authorities had given Somchai a visa that matched our original plan to the hour. We didn't want to get on an immigration black list, so we checked with immigration who informed us that we'd have to go to the police station and get an extension. So we spent the morning in a neverending line composed of refugees with their extended families and household goods, feeling there was probably a better way to get a 3 day extension on our tourist visas. Anyway, we finally got to the front of the line, only to be told that we need a letter from our hotel confirming that we'll have a room during those three days. So we'll get to extend the joy to tomorrow! Unfortunately for our readers, I can't think of a photo to go with this, so you're stuck with a text only post.
